Look Breakdown
In achieving the look for this music video from phendste my primary goal was to create a consistent color scheme and feeling throughout the entirety of the video. In the shooting process of this video no lighting was used and it was all shot of the Sony A7IV, so the look of the video was heavily dependent on the capabilities of the camera and the choices made in the coloring room. The challenge in creating consistency throughout our images was the drastic difference in the shooting locations. The two locations we chose for the video was NYC and Asbury Park, NJ (the beach). The steps I took to achieve consistency started in creating a color palette that could be transferrable from one location to the next while keeping a warm yet natural aesthetic. For the color palette the main thing to consider was the source of the warmth. In the beach scenes I focused on bringing my reds and yellows out in the mid tones, specifically the sand, and in the city I also relied on my mid tones for warmth but due to the absence of the sand I focused on the buildings being my target in bringing out my reds and yellows. Although I also let my highlights sit on the warmer side of my color palette, I couldn't rely on them to provide with enough real estate over the image to create the look I desired.
